What is VAT in Guyana?
Value Added Tax (VAT) is a consumption tax applied to most goods and services in Guyana. The standard rate is 14%. Businesses registered for VAT collect this tax on behalf of GRA.
The VAT threshold
If your annual taxable turnover exceeds GYD $10 million, you must register for VAT. You can also register voluntarily if below the threshold — this allows you to reclaim VAT on business purchases.
How to register
VAT registration is done through GRA. You'll need your TIN, business registration, proof of address, and financial statements. Processing takes 2-4 weeks.
Filing requirements
Once registered, you must file VAT returns — typically quarterly, or monthly for larger businesses. Returns must be filed within 15 days of the period end. Late filing attracts penalties.
